This quilt represents the women who supported the National Park wardens in the early 20th Century. Ann Dixon, wife of warden Fred Dixon, crafted this quilt as a companion to her book Silent Partners: Wives of National Park Warden, which Dixon’s daughter Peggy illustrated. While the quilt shows various scenes of the warden’s activities and responsibilities, it was made from the perspective of the warden’s wife.

This piece celebrates not only the efforts of National Park wardens, but serves as a reminder that these individuals had families who were also an important part of the National Park community. Both the quilt and Peggy Dixon’s illustrations for her mother’s book reside at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies.
